What are nerve injuries and types of them?

Nerves are sensitive and can be get damaged under pressure or cutting stretching. Injury to a nerve is very crucial as it can stop signals carrying to and from the brain. And can cause muscles don’t work properly. Injuries that occur to one or more nerve is called nerve injuries.

Type 1: Compression: too much external or internal pressure on the nerve

Type 2: Wounds from gunshot or bone fracture

Type 3: Stretch injury mostly they are inherit or occur during the birth process)

Type 4: laceration: a cut or tear on the nerve due to knives scissors

Type 5: Electrical injury

Type 6: frostbite injury

Type 7: toxins( heavy sugar and alcohol)

  • Numbness pain and weakness on muscles are the reasons or symptoms when you should go and see a doctor. Numbness include loss of sensation.

How are nerve injuries diagnosed? And there care options?

A complete physical examinations and some following test can diagnose nerve injuries.

An electromyogram (EMG) which evaluates electrical activity produced by muscles.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be used to identify compression on nerve and swelling, or other signs of injury.

Many nerve injuries are curable by surgery method or in some cases one need to be rehabilitation  to facilate full recovery.

About Legg-Calvé-Perthes and symptoms of it?

Legg-Calvé-Perthes also known as perthes disease is a problem where the hip joint move and the way bone grows at the top of femur. It affect both the hips and it may lead to serious problems like one leg shorter than other or in adult it could be hip arthritis.

In our body hip is the joint where leg meets the body. The function is like a ball and socket system where the leg fits in and helps us to move our legs. In case of perthes the blood doesn’t reach the ball of the hip as a result tissue starve and die and starts the breakdown of the hip ball.

The symptoms of perthes may come and go and usually begin slowly or stay mild. Limping and pain often the first sign of having perthes.

They may provide the kid a brace or a cast on hip which decrease the pain and pressure on hip. Proper medications course and daily physical therapy (PT). Children with perthes rarely have a chance of surgery they can be curable under proper medication and care.

The degree of recovery depend on the how much is bone involved. Also younger children to heal the best rather than older kids.

Another serious disease called polio.

Polio is caused by virus. Called poliovirus. It is very contagious as  It was once so dangerous in Us in the early 1900’s as it can make a person paralysed  and could be deadly. And after when the doctors made a vaccine over this the cases rapidly started going down. But its still the problem in many continents like Asia and Africa.

Symptoms of polio and how it contagious.

Most people have a mild flu like symptoms. So they may not even suspect they have polio but major signs are like sore throat, upper respiratory infection, nausea vomiting, general feeling of being sick.

This virus affects the spinal and brain causing much serious symptoms like paralysis. The virus can destroy the nerve cells that control muscles and the nerves which carry electrical signal. When this happens, the muscles get painful and sore.

Meningitis. The polio virus can infect the meninges of a human body which are the membranes which cover the brain and spinal cord. This may cause headache

The virus can spread through mouth and grows in throat and intestine. They can spread by means of air and sexual touch or interaction If the person having polio cough or sneezes on a normal person, they eat contaminated food or drink of polio. Having direct contact with the poop of the polio person.

How polio can be treated and how long does it last?

Polio cant be treated as it can manage the mild symptoms. Someone who have muscle pain. Can curable through medicine, and physical therapy to keep the muscles moving. If they have problem in breathing they may get ventilator.

Polio can last within 2 weeks when it is mild and full recovery within 1 week. People who have serious problem may get paralysed for life and may die.

Is polio preventable?

Polio is a preventable disease. The best way to protect children is to make sure they get a polio vaccine in early life. The vaccine develops a strong immune system which helps to fight with polio and develop antibodies. These antibodies fight with virus if it ever enters the human body.
